In May of 2010, we lost our 6 1/2 year old daughter, Kortni in a tragic hot tub accident.  At that time she was a Kindergartner at Carlos Elementary.

While time, faith, family, and friends have helped and continue to heal our hearts, we wanted a way for Kortni’s memory to continue to live on, so we have started a memorial scholarship fund in her name.

Kortni was an energetic little girl who loved to be around others. To keep that spirit alive we had an annual 5K and Kids Fun Run to raise money for these scholarships as well as create awareness to water safety. This was an event that was held for 10 years.

In 2022 Kortni’s classmates were awarded $120,000 in scholarships. Each year after we will be choosing 1 graduating senior to recieve a $2500 scholasship.

In June of 2022 we gave away 100 life jackets.

In 2023 we are working towards having life jacket boxes AKA Kortni's Klosets at each of our county beaches.

Water Safety Tips:

~The hot temperature of a spa can quickly overheat the small body of a child, 3-5 times faster than an adult’s body.
~Overheating can lead to sleepiness and passing out, raising the risk of drowning.
~Please keep children under 12 out of spas and hot tubs. You could be saving their lives.

~NEVER submerge your head under the water.

~According to government safety guidelines children should not be in a hot tubs for longer than five minutes at a time. Infants and Toddlers should not be exposed to the dangerously hot temperatures at all.

~The water in the pool/spa should always be clear and you should be able to see the bottom. If not, the chemical application should be adjusted.

ABOUT US

Kortni was a little girl full of spunk!

Some of her favorite things were singing, dancing and playing with her friends. Kortni was everyone's friend.

She loved bossing around her little brothers as well as hugging and kissing on them.

Her bright blue eyes and amazing smile would light up the room. And her giggle would make any day better.
